Have you heard about the Missing in America Project?  Their mission is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations. To provide honor and respect to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes.  To date they have visited 592 funeral homes, identified 491 unclaimed veterans cremains and interred 321.

Many veterans are unaware of the benefits available to them.  Most funeral homes won't even mention these benefits!  At Indiana Funeral Care, we are proud to serve veterans and their spouses and work hard to make sure they get all of the benefits to which they are entitled, such as:
  • Free cemetery space at a natioanl cemetery
  • Free burial vault
  • Free opening and closing
  • Free grave marker

Contact Indiana Funeral Care today to find out more about veteran benefits.  We offer discount cremations starting at $890 and complete church funerals starting at $3,950.

Yesterday I wrote about the people of burma who struggle very hard to pay for a $94.00 funeral.  Today I read about the funeral for a Princess in Thailand (which borders Burma to the East).  The funeral rites -- including a procession of nearly 6,000 soldiers and an outing of ancient teak carriages -- carry a price tag of at least 300 million baht or 8.9 million dollars.  Incredible.

At Indiana Funeral Care, our most expensive, complete church funeral is $4,790 and includes all professional services, a high-quality casket, same day visitation, death certificate, flowers and a memorial package.

William Gladstone said, “Show me the manner in which a nation or a community cares for its dead and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender sympathies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land and their loyalty to high ideals.”

It is interesting to read about the funeral practices in other countries.  In Burma, for example, the average funeral and cremation costs 120,000 kyat (about $94.00).  This in a country where the average annual income per capita is $200.  One alternative used by some poor residents in villages around Rangoon is to allow a “funeral contractor” to handle the funeral.  Basically, a funeral contractor runs a gambling den at the funeral home and people come to the funeral and gamble. They share some of the money with the family and in return, the poor family receives a funeral service.

At Indiana Funeral Care you can get a complete cremation with memorial service for $1,795 or a complete traditional funeral starting at just $3,950.  In addition, you can pre-pay using one of several affordable payment options and lock-in today's prices.  No gambling required.

Several casket stores have come and gone in Indianapolis.  Costco continues to sell caskets, but according to a friend that works there, he has not seen much demand or interest.  As far as cheap caskets Indianapolis, they are hard to find.  Indiana Funeral Care prices it's caskets at prices much lower than other funeral homes in Indianapolis....and they are American made!  Some funeral homes in Indianapolis have started selling caskets made in China, which is okay, I guess.  But due to the number of veterans funeral services we perform and just plain old patriotic feelings, we have stayed with American manufacturers.  The price is fair, the quality is dependable and consistent and we can obtain just about any color or material in 24 hours.

Most veterans have no idea that VA National Cemeteries offer a free grave, free opening and closing of the grave, free outer burial container and free marker for the veteran AND spouse.  When people are planning funerals for veterans, they should at least consider a National Cemetery.  An honorable and beautiful place for burial and they will save thousands of dollars.

People searching for Indiana Discount Funerals want to make their own informed decisions.  Most people want to make a purchase decision based on facts and not what a funeral director talks them into.  When consumers go to Lowes or Home Depot, they make a purchase decision on their own based on product information on the box and on price.  If they want advice, they ask for it.  Consumers visit www.indianafuneralcare.com and find complete and understandable funeral and cremation service details and price information.  If they have questions, they call.

The publisher of a new book called "When the Sun Goes Down: Planning the Funeral of Your Life" gave away a life-sizeed casket bookcase in a recent raffle promoting the book.

Numerous books have been written with standard forms to be filled out and specific instructions to be followed for planning your funeral.  When the Sun Goes Down makes a giant leap of faith and suggests that you create your very own funeral service.  Just as traditional wedding vows did not quite “say it all” at your wedding, nor did the traditional “hospital birth” suffice for your baby’s delivery, neither must you compromise this final celebration of your life with a customary funeral service. You are entitled to make this last celebration of your life entirely your own!  The information in this book is meant to spark your imagination and assist you in this exciting and stimulating process!

Indiana Funeral Care can help you plan and pay for your funeral so that you get the celebration of life you desire and your family doesn't have to worry and wonder what you would have wanted.  We offer low cost caskets, discounted funeral and creamtion services and most of all, peace of mind.

I just read a story about three orphaned children in the UK who are having to sell everything they own on Ebay to pay for their mother's funeral.  You can read the whole story HERE.  They were quoted a price of 2,515 British Pounds (or about $3,800) for a cremation with a church memorial service.  At Indiana Funeral Care a cremation with limited family viewing and a church memorial service would only cost $1,795.  Thankfully, their county government and a local football club offerd to help pay for the funeral.  Pre-planning is another great way to save money on funeral arrangements.

Hanging out at the VFW Post #10003 last night at the reception to honor Del Waugh, a member's wife said her husband understood that VA Funerals were paid for by the VA until just recently.  When they asked a local funeral home about VA benefits, they responded that they did not know, but would look into it.  We can clarify VA Funeral benefits in advance with just a call.  Now that he realized that there is not such thing as VA Funerals and that the benefits would not cover the cost, he wants to preplan his funeral.

A caller pleaded that someone has to offer discount cremations in Indiana!  She had called several funeral homes looking for low price or discount cremations with no success. One had quoted the price of the cremation for $1,400, plus a container for $125, plus the cremation fee of $300, plus, plus plus!  Another said they could save her lots of money over a regular funeral and their price was $2,995.  When I told her our price is $890, she responded, "Plus what?  What are the ad ons?"  When she realized the price is $890 complete, she replied, "Now that's more like it!  An honest up front, no frills company that offers discount cremations!"

Indiana discount funerals? More people are seeking discount funerals in Indiana.  More and more calls, website visits, internet inquiries.  Times are tough! Just hard to see the value in paying $10,000 for a funeral when we offer a number of complete church funeral and visitation packages for less than $5,000.

Cremation in Indiana is growing to a level of acceptance among a broad spectrum of families.  With cremation, distraught family members and close friends seem to be able to focus more on the life lived, than the body of the deceased.  I witnessed such a meaningful service for a well loved young man, attended by so many that were so deeply touched!

After witnessing the funeral at the Indiana War Memorial this week, I cannot think of a more fitting location for funerals for veterans.  The grandeur, history and significance of the Indiana War Memorial is inspiring and makes attendees proud and appreciative of the dedication and commitment to our country of our veterans.  It doesn't seem so much like a funeral, but more an expression of gratitude and celebration of an unselfish life lived and gift given!

  • Perpetual care with no annual maintenance fee
  • Free grave marker

The U.S. Navy will also scatter ashes from a war ship and conduct a full military honor ceremony. Active military personnel are permitted on board the ship only, however, the Navy will send a video to the family. For those veterans who have given 20 years active duty, they are entitled to a free burial at sea.
